Emerald Dwarf Rasbora Danio (syn. Celestichthys erythromicron, formerly Microrasbora erythromicron)
The Emerald Dwarf Rasbora (also called Emerald Dwarf Danio) is a tiny, vibrant nano fish (max ~1 inch / 2.5 cm) with a tan to golden body crossed by bold dark blue-black vertical bars and a shimmering emerald-green iridescence, especially vivid in males. Females are slightly plainer. Native to a single lake in Myanmar, these peaceful micro-schoolers add subtle sparkle and gentle movement to planted nano tanks and are excellent shrimp-safe companions.
Quick Care Overview
- Tank: Minimum 10 gallons (15–20+ gallons ideal for groups of 8–12+ to reduce shyness)
- Parameters: Temperature 68–78°F (20–26°C), pH 6.5–7.5 (stable), soft to moderately hard water; pristine, consistent quality essential (sensitive to swings)
- Setup: Heavily planted with fine-leaved plants, mosses, driftwood, and leaf litter; gentle flow, subdued lighting to enhance colors
- Behavior: Timid and peaceful; best in groups of 10+ where they become more active and confident. Great with shrimp, snails, other nano peaceful fish (e.g., chili rasboras, pygmy corys)
- Diet: Omnivorous — micro pellets, flakes, frozen/live daphnia, baby brine shrimp, cyclops; feed small amounts multiple times daily
- Lifespan: 3–5 years with excellent care
- Difficulty: Beginner to intermediate (hardy once acclimated, but requires stable parameters and low stress)
These delicate “micro gems” bring elegant color and life to nano planted setups, especially when kept in larger schools where their bars and iridescence really shine. Perfect for shrimp keepers seeking peaceful, non-disruptive tankmates. Available soon at Valley Aquatics with Canada-wide shipping! 🦐
